Red Wiggler Compost Worms – Raised Manure Free

Hello,

Terry here with TerrysWormStore.com. We were just sitting here talking and wanted to talk a little about our Manure Free Red Wiggler Compost Mix. We believe our mix of Red Wigglers is one of the best eaters of organic waste out their bar none. These little Worms which are about the size of a pencil lead can eat ½ their weight every day.  The Compost Worm Mix that we have is a assortment of Eisenia Fetida, Eisenia hortensis and Perionyx excavates. We think that these are the best eaters. They live in the top 3 inches or so of the bin so they feed and eat all your scraps that you feed them. (Do not overfeed…. This will create a bad smell as well as anaerobic condition in your bin.

Feeding Our Compost Worms

We feed our Red Wiggler Worms a Special Blend of our own Worm Chow that we make. Its what works for us! For a treat when we have some kitchen Waste we also give our Composting Worms melon, squash, lettuce, cucumber, apples (which they love) as well as bananas. another favorite.  NEVER feed your Compost Worm Meat, Citrus, Dairy Wastes, Cooking oil. Red Wiggler Composting Worms need grit as well. Ground up Egg Shells are a great source for this. Be careful as adding to much of any of this can do more harm than good.

Worm Bedding

As far as bedding we use a special mix that we created that works really good. Our bedding is a certain proportion of sphagnum peat moss (the big 4 cubit ft bale like at the big stores) (but be careful you will want to use the one that does not have fertilizer in it), shredded cardboard and some shredded news paper. The proportion is our special mix.

Now comes the interesting part. We do NOT use any kind of animal Manures as a lot of growers do. For most of you all that grow indoors or in a kitchen cabinet who wants your house to smell like manure. If your Compost bin is set up correctly there will not be any smell. We at TerrysWormStore.com feel like you should not have to feed your Compost Worms Manure in order to make your own Worm Castings.

Here are a few pictures of Basil and Cucumbers Grown with no Chemicals what so ever and Worm Castings..

These were fed entirely on Worm Castings. No chemicals at all!!

I just want to touch briefly on shipping. A lot of growers ship only on Monday or Tuesday. I have a lot to say about that. We ship every day Monday thru Friday. Our little Red Wiggler Worms Make it just fine. Of course, if the shipping service holds them up. Well that’s another story. We received a worm order back after lost in transit right at 3 weeks and they were still alive. Hot but alive. Our Red Wigglers are grown under climate-controlled conditions.

Last but not least we really like what we do and try our best to make our customers Happy. We also will try our best to answer your questions. If we don’t know we will try to find out.
